About Far Gone Farm
 

 

  The Facility        


Far Gone Farm is owned and operated by the Gaughan family in Manchester, Michigan. With over 25 years of experience, they strive to make Far Gone Farm one of Michigan’s premier equestrian facilities. The farm sits on acres of grassy fields and boasts a brand-new 60x120 indoor arena, attached stable, large pastures with run-in shelters as well as an outdoor riding arena. Several cross-country jumps are available as well as quiet dirt roads for hacking. Horses benefit from daily pasture turn-out, twice daily feedings, and daily stall cleaning. Owner-provided supplements are administered at no cost and rotational worming is also provided at no cost.  We give each horse individual attention and take great care in introducing new horses to their surroundings.  We want each horse to feel comfortable and confident. Far Gone Farm places a strong emphasis on cleanliness, safety, and health for both horse and rider.  We are proud to boast our association with the areas finest veterinarians and farrier, including The Veterinary Standard, Countryside Veterinary Clinic,  Manchester Veterinary Clinic, and Allan Schmidt horseshoeing.  The well-being of the horses is given the highest priority. Board is $300/month. Multiple horses receive a discount of 10%.

  Riding and Training


Far Gone Farm offers instruction in various disciplines of riding, and specializes in Dressage, Jumping, English and Western. The riding program is offered to all ages and all levels. Beginners are taught basic horsemanship, horse care, and safety. The farm also boasts the ability to teach riders who compete and want to succeed at any leval. The lesson program is open to anyone who has a strong desire to learn, and above all, have fun! Training programs are catered to each student, whether they are beginners or upper-level riders. Far Gone Farm stresses that every rider have fun and be safe, which is why ASTM/FEI approved helmets are required at all times when mounted. Classes are taught individually or in pairs and no lesson will have more than two riders in it. The farm has its own school horses, or lessons can be taught on the riders horse, if applicable.

The farm also trains horses for the show ring and specializes in "polishing" the show horse. Owner participation is encouraged and those who send their horses to the farm have seen tremendous results.  Our trainer outlines the specific needs of each horse to its owners and helps to implement  and teach training techniques for the long-term.   Horses are trained in an understanding and compassionate manner and are handled in a safe and gentle way. Far Gone Farm does not take stallions at this time.

Far Gone Farm also takes horses on consignment. We offer a strong emphasis on marketing a finding that all-important "match" for the horse that you are selling. We are able to market to the sporthorse and open show communities and enjoy working with each horse. Allison also prides herself on being able to find that "special" horse for her clients and works diligently to make sure both horse and rider and happy.

  About the Trainer


Allison Gaughan has been involved in riding and competing horses for most of her life. She specializes in Dressage and jumping, and competes in Eventing. She has successfully competed at First Level in Dressage and also has an extensive background in Western riding. She has ridden with internationally recognized riders like Stuart Young-Black, Jim Graham, and Bruce Mandeville as well as respected Event and Dressage trainer Susan Moessner.  She has also ridden with local trainers Lynn DeTurk and Dallas Bradbury.  She has earned a respected reputation as a trainer and rider and she now brings her knowledge and experience to this farm, which she co-owns.  Allison's students compete successfully in area shows  and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere she maintains at competitions. She brings her passion for horses and teaching to the students of Far Gone Farm and hopes that they learn the same respect and love for horses that she has always had.
